La Magia Hospital

The hospital La Magia was opened in Niamey on April 10, 2002. It helps to publicize the opportunity for help for children with Noma in West Africa. The state president, Mamadou Tandja, personally opened the hospital by cutting the ribbon. The prime minister, all members of cabinet and the president of parliament attended the ceremony, as did 83 members of parliament. In addition, all but two ambassadors in Niger followed the president’s invitation, as did representatives of authorities and organizations. Among them were representatives of the world health organization, UNICEF, the Red Cross and Caritas. Also present were all representatives of non-governmental organizations, as well as representatives of public life and the heads of all medical institutions.

The first Noma hospital in the world was built at the initiative of the Hilfsaktion with the financial support of “Sternstunden”, the charity organization of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, “Hellef ouni Grenzen” (Luxembourg) and many other donors. The hospital’s complete medical equipment was sponsored by Round Table Deutschland. The beds were donated by the Kurt-Lange-Stiftung in Bielefeld. As a result, only the most complicated Noma cases have to be operated in Europe. Now donations are desperately needed to pay for medication, food and the hospital personnel to maintain the hospital.

Please help us with your donation to keep the hospital up and running!
